Book Review

“Mom Babble:  A Messy Truth About Motherhood” by Mary Katherine Backstrom is a funny, yet inspiring read for any parent (not just moms)!

Each chapter of this book is an essay about the author’s personal parenting experiences.  Author, Mary Katherine Backstrom, has a hilarious way of describing her relatable parenting fails.  I found myself mentally saying “right there with ya” while reading most of these essays.  This book will make you feel less alone and inspire you to move on from your “fails” and enjoy your babies no matter how hard the day was.

“Enough” is the essay that spoke to me the most because I have numerous stand offs with my toddler that I eventually let break me and I lose my patience with my toddler, which leaves me feeling like a horrible mother.  Reading this made me feel like I’m not the only one that fails and loses their control, but just being their mom and loving and protecting them is enough and everything my child needs.

There are many quotes that resonated with me in this book, here are a few of my favorites:

“My son will never need me more than the day he was born. And tomorrow, if I’m doing my job, he will need me a little less.”

“When life gets messy and we screw up at this parenting thing, there will be grace for us.”

Mom Babble is Mary Katherine Backstrom’s blog and if you read her blog or follow her on Facebook you would’ve already read about half of these essays, so you might not be reading any new information.  With that said, I consider this a coffee table book that is beautiful to look at and easy to pick an essay to read when you need a pick-me-up after a rough day.

*I received an early copy of this book as part of the #BabbleTeam launch group.  This did not influence my review and all opinions are my own.*
